Our Relatively Short History:

Monadnock Covenant Church was established in 1994 by a core group of about 20 people, including Ray and Marion Kliewer, Ron and Marion Rzasa, Bob and Nancy Karlson, and more. This group of people wished to establish a Covenant presence in the Monadnock region, and the first service was held in September of 1994. Since that time, church attendance has grown from an average of 38 in September of '94 to an average of over 180 currently.

The following narrative was supplied by Marian Kliewer to explain the history of Monadnock Covenant Church:

On a very cold night in January, 1994, a small group of about 20 people met at Bob and Nancy Karlson's house with Jim Persson from Covenant headquarters in Chicago and George Elia, our East Coast Conference superintendent to discuss the possibility of starting a Covenant church in the Keene area. The spirit and enthusiasm of the group was very impressive and contagious, and God's timing was very evident. Rev. Persson and Rev. Elia knew that it was time to begin.

By March 29, David Ness was recommended to us as our Mission Pastor, and the dates of April 14 & 15 were set for David and Diane's visit to meet us and tour our area. In the meantime, a steering committee was formed, consisting of Kendra Davidsen, Nancy Karlson, Ray Kliewer, Sherry Page, Ron Rzasa, and David VanderWoude. Meetings began, committees were appointed, and we were off and running.

On August 13, we gathered to choose a name for our new fellowship, and we selected Monadnock Covenant Church. At this time, our group numbered about 34.

The Ness family arrived on the first of August, and on September 4, a beautiful service of consecration was held during the morning worship service at Pilgrim Pines. Our first official worship service took place at the Squanto Rec Hall on September 11. After holding worship there for three Sundays, we made arrangements to move our services to Symonds School, where we have continued to meet since.

God has graciously blessed our fellowship, and every month has seen new growth. We have grown from 34 on that first Sunday to a consistent average of over 180 currently. The Children's Ministry has bloomed into a thriving ministry on Sundays, with almost 40 children on the rolls.   God has met our every need and continues the vision of a caring church in the Monadnock region. He has great plans for the future of Monadnock Covenant Church.
